Virgil Rose has 40 years experience in the electric utility industry including consulting, engineering, system operation, and management. Previously, Mr. Rose was part of the senior executive management at Pacific Gas & Electric with responsibility in the areas of operations, business management, strategy, industry restructuring, and corporate policy. He held senior executive positions including: Senior Vice President - Electric Supply Business Unit, Senior Vice President - Distribution Business Unit, and Vice President of Electric Operations. Mr. Rose is a recognized international expert in the area of electric utility transmission and distribution and has carried out assignments for California Energy Commission, Department of Energy, California Independent System Operator, Bonneville Power Administration, national labs, and west coast utilities.

Mr. Rose is currently an independent consultant. His consulting practice includes management of a portfolio of research projects in advanced real-time system operations. He is working with the California Energy Commission, DOE, CAISO, BPA, National labs, and West Coast utilities to address the current grid vulnerabilities through the application of the latest modeling and control technologies. Mr. Rose also currently serves on the Board of Directors for Beacon Power Corporation that has developed flywheel energy storage technology for grid control applications.

Mr. Rose received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Fresno State University and his Master’s in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University. He also graduated from Harvard University’s Advanced Management Program.
